What is Ecovadis?

EcoVadis, founded in 2007, is now one of the world’s most comprehensive sustainability grading tools, measuring the social, ethical, and environmental consequences of private and public organisations. Over the previous decade, it has created a global network of over 65,000 rated businesses. Ecovadis is the collaborative platform in the world for trading partners. It provides a holistic sustainability rating service of companies. We share sustainability performance information. It is delivered via a global cloud-based SaaS platform. The EcoVadis assessment is a service that rates a company’s material sustainability effect using extensive documentation analysis (unlike many other ESG rating agencies that exist). The assessment is accessible to all businesses and can be used as a tool to guarantee supply chain transparency. Companies (or “buyers”) can send invitations to their suppliers, who will then be informed of the procedure and outcomes, asking them to submit their suppliers for the EcoVadis assessment.

How to get Ecovadis certified?

The EcoVadis Certification process consists of five steps, beginning with registration and ending with acknowledgment.

Step 1 – Registration (Create the profile)

Registering on the EcoVadis website is the first step towards obtaining an EcoVadis certification. It is required to update the contact information, establish a company profile, and describe the line of business. EcoVadis uses this data to create a specific questionnaire for your company depending on its size, industrial sector, and country of operations.

Step 2 – Questionnaire (Filling the Ecovadis questionnaire)

When the registration is complete, we receive an email with the username, instructions, and a link to generate the password to access the platform.

When we first use the site, we will be taken to the Dashboard page, where we can check our progress, read the most recent EcoVadis news, and begin filling out the questionnaire.

Step 3 – Expert Analysis (Ecovadis analysts will score the assessment)

After we have finished and submitted the questionnaire, the designated EcoVadis specialists will review our responses and the attached papers to see if they adhere to EcoVadis standards and are supported by the proper documentation. About 6 to 8 weeks are needed to complete the process.

Step 4 – Results (Receiving the Scorecard and if applicable medal is received)

We will receive an email notification once the findings of the analysis of our responses have been made public. The summary of our response will be shown as a Scorecard. Comparing the overall result to the industry average score;

There are three scores mentioned given below.

    • In comparison to the average industry score, your overall score
    • The scores for the four sustainability themes and the average industry score for each theme.
    • Each pillar’s weight (from 1 to 4).

Step 5 – Recognition (Sharing the results within your supply chain)

The EcoVadis medal could be delivered along with your score. No medals are given out if the overall score is less than 50 or if the theme score is less than 25. A company can be awarded a bronze medal (50), a silver medal (59), a gold medal (70), or a platinum medal (78).
