- Year 2007 – United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) decided to take a tough stance against climate change and focus on reducing the overall Carbon Footprint.
- Year 2008 – Experts of ISO from all over the globe set up a committee to study Energy consumption patterns and device guidelines for Energy Consumption.
- Year 2011 – ISO 50001 was first published for general usage
- Year 2018 – First-ever revision of ISO 50001 standard was published with improvements.
